BREAKING: Rondo Foods in Arklow to close in January 2020 with the loss of 157 jobs
Rondo Foods in Arklow is to close by the end of January 2020 with the loss of 157 jobs, the pet food company has confirmed.
“At the beginning of November RONDO FOOD Ireland started a consultation process between the management and the works committee,” a statement from the company says.
“This process has now been concluded. In an intensive consultation process, all possibilities for the Arklow site were taken into consideration.
“After evaluating all options, RONDO FOOD has reached the conclusion that by the end of January 2020 the facility will be relocated to Krefeld/Germany.
“All staff have been offered redundancy packages which exceed the scale of the mandatory statutory redundancy packages.
“In liaison with the Department of Social Welfare, there will be an information meeting for all staff within the next few days. We deeply regret this development,” it concludes.
Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady has said that the confirmation this afternoon is a ‘devastating blow’ for workers and their families two weeks out from Christmas.
“I have had continuous engagement with the workers at Rondo Food since news first broke as to what many believed to be, the imminent closure of Rondo Food in Arklow. Sadly, that news has been confirmed this afternoon,” he said.
“While Rondo Food have again alluded to their 30-day consultation period in their latest press release this afternoon, I do not think anyone believes that Rondo Food considered any other options aside from re-location. I believe that that decision was made long before any consultation period.”
