Eight Wicklow charities bank €1,000 from AIB initiative

AIB branches in Wicklow have come together to support eight local charities and help provide direct funds to local community efforts.

Some €200,000 has been made available to branches across the county (€1,000 per branch) as part of AIB Together, the bank’s community investment programme.

The Wicklow charities to benefit from the funding include:

  • Meals on Wheels
  • Loaves & fishes
  • WH Five Loaves Ltd
  • Bray Lakers
  • The Gavin Glynn Foundation
  • Greystones Cancer Support
  • Wicklow Cancer Support
  • Wicklow Hospice

Speaking about the donations, Gaye O’Connell, head of AIB Wicklow, Wexford and Carlow said: “The Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow AIB family, are proud to be part of the AIB Together Community Programme where we donated €11,000 to 25 local charities right across the three Counties.

“As we all know, charities are particularly challenged this year due to Covid-19 as a number of their fundraisers have been curtailed. So with charity income down, our donations were especially well received and appreciated.

“It is great to be part of an organisation that recognises the needs of our community. As Local Market Leader, it is a pleasure to work with such a great group of people who demonstrate such empathy with their local community in need.”

Separately, AIB has also launched a fundraising initiative to further support communities impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. As part of the AIB Together programme, partnering with AIB’s long-standing Community partners FoodCloud and Soar, in addition to Alone & Pieta House, staff can fundraise or donate directly into a dedicated AIB Together Fund. AIB will then match the fund for final disbursement to the chosen charity.

AIB has set itself a target to raise €1 million from colleagues which will be matched by €1 million from the business – creating an overall ambition of giving €2 million to communities most in need right now. More than €337,000 has been raised so far, including the matched funding.
