Lights, camera, action! Major plans to overhaul Wicklow’s Ardmore Studios unveiled
Ardmore Studios has begun work on a major expansion which will make the Bray-based facility one of the biggest studios in the county.
A new sound stage is currently under construction, with plans for two more.
Under the plan, two large sound stages 2,400 sq m in size will be built along with new production offices and storage for costumes and props.
Building work recently started on another 2,000 sq m sound stage with support space and an underground car park.
If the latest expansion goes ahead, Ardmore would have nine sound stages in total and be bigger than Troy Studios in Limerick and Belfast’s Titanic Studios.
Ardmore chief executive Siún Ní Raghallaigh told the Sunday Times the expansion would allow it “to compete with the best studios in the world”.
She said Ardmore has been operating to full capacity in recent years and the new facilities would allow it to attract “world-class television and film productions”.
Ní Raghallaigh also said more than €2m had been invested in redeveloping the facilities at Ardmore, which are used for the filming of the popular RTÉ show Dancing With The Star (Greystones resident Sinéad O’Carroll pictured on the show earlier this year).
