Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Dundrum is reopen to the public again – and the legendary Dublin bar and restaurant is preparing to unveil a series of exciting developments over the coming weeks as the restrictions are relaxed.

With its spacious bar, lounge and indoor and outdoor function rooms that can cater for up to 150 guests in a Covid friendly environment, Uncle Tom’s Cabin is ideally placed to endure the ensure the health and safety of its customers and staff. And over the past few weeks management and staff have been busy getting the Dundrum venue in shape so it can comfortably adhere to the new social distancing guidelines.

The venue recently opened its Community Coffee dock (pictured below) outside the front entrance, which has proved to be a big hit with local residents and commuters. And there are plans to develop an exciting outdoor food offering in the spacious car park, which will be finalised over the next few weeks.

Co-owner Stewart Doyle said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming back our loyal customers to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and we’ve worked very hard to ensure they are returning to a very comfortable and safe environment.

“All of the bar and restaurant staff have received extensive training on Covid safety and disinfection. All customers who come in will be met and greeted by a dedicated staff member and brought to their table, and we’ve reduced our seating capacity to allow for two-metre physical distancing.”

Aside from the health and safety protocols, everything at Uncle Tom’s Cabin has been set up to ensure customers can sit back, relax and enjoy the comfortable bar and restaurant setting for the first time in months.

The bar and restaurant will reopen tomorrow, from 5pm on weekdays and 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The venue is taking reservations and group bookings and can cater for any family or group event, from corporate events, christenings, communions, confirmations, engagement and 21st parties to hens, stags and – later in the year – Christmas bookings. Famed for its ‘Live Sessions’, Uncle Tom’s Cabin is also planning for live music to return to the venue over the coming months.

For now, the venue has all the sports channels at the touch of a button, so customers can sit back and enjoy the latest games and events from across the world.

The bar boasts an extensive range of all draft beers, select craft beers and an impressive selection of leading whiskey and gin brands, including Monkey 47, Drumshamboo, Tanquery No.10, Bombay and Gordons.

The word ‘iconic’ is often used to describe some of Ireland’s best-known bars, but after 130 years serving the denizens of Dundrum and south Dublin Uncle Tom’s Cabin has well and truly earned its superlative status. Dundrum has undergone a massive transformation in recent years and is now home to one of Ireland’s biggest and popular shopping centres. But the 130-year-old premises on the main Dundrum Road in south Dublin has remained a comforting constant in the suburb in the midst of all the changes. And customers returning to the bar and restaurant for the first time in months since the lockdown will be reassured to find that – safety measures aside – everything remains pretty much as it was before.

The snug interiors provide the ideal escape from the pressures of everyday life, a place to sit back and enjoy your favourite tipple, on your own or in the company of friends.

The expert staff, like many of the loyal regulars, have been part of the Uncle Tom’s furniture for years, providing top class service in the relaxed surroundings of the bar, lounge and restaurant.
