The sound of silence: Bray Jazz Festival to take a break for 2020
The May Bank Holiday will be a little quieter in Wicklow this year after it was confirmed that Bray Jazz Festival will not take place this year.
After celebrating their 20th anniversary last year, organisers have decided to take a break but have “pledged to ‘re-imagine’ and ‘re-structure’ Bray Jazz Festival before returning, next year.”
A statement on it s Facebook reads: “To realize our ambitions and ensure a sustainable future for Bray Jazz we need to effect change, in both the way our project is structured and funded.
“After 20 years of unbroken presentation, we have decided to take a step back, re-evaluate, and carry out this work. Bray Jazz has built an enviable reputation as one of Ireland’s leading contemporary music festivals.
“It cannot continue to grow and evolve in the decade to come while being run by a small, entirely voluntary team of organisers.
“Bray Jazz Festival is grateful to the loyal audiences who have been with us for two decades … We acknowledge that ‘broken service’ in 2020 does pose a risk to the festival but have been heartened by the expressions of goodwill and ongoing support received from various stakeholders in recent weeks. ”
