Huge operation to rescue three teens who went ‘surfing’ on Wicklow river as storm raged
A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Rathdrum yesterday after three teenagers got into difficulty while using inflatable rings to “surf” in the river in stormy conditions.
Gardaí, the Ambulance Service, fire crews, the Mountain Rescue Swift Water Unit and the Coast Guard helicopter were all deployed in a the operation at the Avonmore River yesterday afternoon.
A local Garda spokesperson confirmed the operation was a success, adding: “All safe and well. Please be careful near coasts and rivers given the current weather and heavy rainfall.”
