A cut above: Wicklow mum Amanda hoping to raise €5,000 for Gavin Glynn by shaving her head

A Wicklow mum is hoping to raise €5,000 for the Gavin Glynn Foundation by shaving her head this weekend.

Amanda Sweeney, who lives in Delgany but is from Bray originally, is following in the footsteps of her husband Liam who shaved his earlier this week in aid of the charity.

The mother of three boys will go under the razor on Saturday when her son Rueben will do the honours – her other two sons are Saul and Elwood.

Amanda is hoping her efforts will bring a smile to her family’s faces after her sister was forced to postpone her wedding this Saturday due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Ok so this is probably the craziest thing I have ever done!!” Amanda, who is the sister of Green Party TD Steven Matthews, posted on Facebook.

“The last few weeks have been strange but it has given me time to think and reflect on really how lucky I have been in life.

“My good friend passed away in January after a very hard fight against Cancer. The Gavin Glynn Foundation is an amazing charity that helps families with children battling cancer. They help families travel to USA London etc to get the treatment their children need.

“Recently The Gavin Glynn foundation has helped a beautiful little baby who is connected to a member of Liams family. I am going to take part in this lockdown shave and I need all your support.

“If everyone on my fb (where possible) can donate anything at all I should be able to raise a nice amount. You all know me, you all know I have a huge head of hair!!

“My amazing hairdresser Aindreas Mc Cionaodha calls me the Lion King 🤣🤣! So Im going to set up a fundraiser page for this today and Ruben will be my hairdresser on Saturday 18th April!

“Saturday 18th was the day my sisters wedding was to take place so at least Ill cheer them all up that day and make them laugh …. or cry!!! Thank you for all your support x.”

Anyone wishing to donate can contribute here.
