‘A total failure’ – Wicklow TDs go head-to-head in TV showdown over hospital crisis
Health Minister Simon Harris will face a grilling from his fellow Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly when he appears before a televised Dáil committee tomorrow.
Minister Harris will appear before the Oireachtas Health Committee where he will be questioned on the record levels of overcrowding in our hospitals.
His consituency rival Stephen Donnelly, who is also the Fianna Fáil health spokesperson, described Minister Harris as “a total failure” ahead of the committee showdown.
Deputy Donnelly (pictured below) said: “I’m not sure what Minister Harris will be able to say – the truth is that there is no excuse for leaving vulnerable, ill people, including the very old and the very young, lying on trolleys in hospital corridors without the care, compassion and dignity that they deserve.
“The number of patients on trolleys in our hospitals this week reached the highest level it’s ever been with 760 patients left waiting without a bed for two days in a row. That’s absolutely appalling, a total failure by the Health Minister Simon Harris, and we in the Health Committee have called him before us to answer to the public.”
