Boxing hero Katie lands dream fight of her life, but fans will have to pay to see it
Katie Taylor has landed the big one!
Today it was confirmed the undisputed World Champion will get to test herself at the very highest level against a pound-for-pound rival in what promises to be the biggest fight of her career to date.
On May 2 Katie will face-off in the ring against the talented – and noisy – Amanda Serrano, who has been calling the Olympic hero out for a couple of years.
Serrano will be gunning to steal Katie’s status as undisputed lightweight champion of the world – and the Bray boxer will be doing everything in her power to make sure she doesn’t lose her unbeaten status.
The mount-watering showdown will be the chief support to Dillian Whyte’s heavyweight clash against Alexander Povetkin.
Katie is in line for a massive payday for the fight, but sadly for Irish fight fans, it is a Sky pay-for-view event and will not be free to air.
Serrano’s credentials are impressive. Unbeaten in eight years, Serrano has compiled a 38-1-1 record, the draw coming in just her fifth professional fight, the defeat an away day in Sweden in 2o12, when she lost on a disputed points decision.
Since then she has won 23 fights on the spin, dabbled in MMA and professional wrestling, and – after Katie – has become one of the most recognisable female boxers in the pro game.
