Bray hero Katie Taylor tipped to reclaim RTE Sports Personality crown
Bray’s Katie Taylor has emerged as the punters’ favourite to bag her second RTE Sports Personality award.
Katie previously won the prestigious accolade in 2012 on the back of her gold medal heroics at the London Olympics.
With a list of fight options this year – with Amanda Serrano and Cecilia Braekhus looking the most likely opponents – BoyleSports have chalked the Bray boxer up at 11/4 to knock out fellow sporting for the RTE Sports Personality Award.
Gordon Elliott’s superstar Tiger Roll is eyeing an historic hat-trick after he bagged two Aintree Grand Nationals on the trot, with a third still on the cards after he was named amongst the entries for the race on Wednesday. Should Tiger Roll create more history and win the most famous steeplechase in the world again, he is 13/2 to be crowned the RTE Sports Personality of the Year winner, with jockey Davy Russell at 100/1.
Other jockeys in the mix for the award inlcude Rachael Blackmore and Oisin Murphy both at 16/1 and Paul Townend at 33/1.
Golf also provides strong representation in the betting ahead of the Ryder Cup in September, with Rory McIlroy a 10/3 shot and last year’s winner Shane Lowry at 20/1. European Captain Padraig Harrington is currently rated at 33/1.
With a 6th All-Ireland in a row a possibility, any Dublin footballer is listed at 12/1 to win the award.
BoyleSports spokesperson Sarah Kinsella said: “With the likes of Davy Russell, Tiger Roll and the Dublin footballers chasing history, it’s no wonder punters are excited about backing their early predictions to win the coveted award. Katie Taylor is the favourite at 11/4 while any Irish Olympian is a 10/3 chance, but it’s a long year ahead and we’ll wait to see what sporting magic unfolds.”
