Bray’s Katie Taylor and Delphine Persoon to fight again on August 22

Bray’s Katie Taylor will take on Delfine Persoon on August 22 in a rematch of their controversial bout last year.Taylor will defend her WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight after she became undisputed champion with her points win over a furious Persoon at Madison Square Garden.

Taylor was set to fight Amanda Serrano but failure to agree the bout has led to promoter Eddie Hearn turning to the Belgian boxer.

The fight will be part of ‘Fight Camp’ – a series of behind closed doors fights staged in Essex in England.

“With Amanda Serrano not taking the fight I wanted the biggest fight possible in August and I think a second Persoon fight is one that everyone wants to see,” said Taylor.

“I’ve been looking forward to a rematch ever since the first fight and I’m delighted it’s been made. It was definitely very close first time around, but I felt I deserved the win and I intend to leave no doubts in the rematch.”

Persoon said: “I am ready to get the victory following the injustice last June in New York, not by words but in the ring – I am ready.”

The fight will be the chief support to heavyweight bout between Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin and broadcast as pay per view on Sky Sports.
