Castle Street in Bray reopens after massive fire engulfs empty building opposite SuperValu
Castle Street in Bray has reopened this morning after a massive fire gutted an empty building opposite SuperValu.
The road was closed as fire fighters battled the blaze beside the old Heiton Buckley outlet.
Wicklow Fire Service battled to extinguish the blaze after smoke was spotted billowing from windows at about 10pm on Friday night.
Flames could be seen coming from the top of the building throughout the night as units of Bray and Greystones fire brigades responded.
Bus services were subsequently diverted and there were traffic delays following the introduction of diversions.
Early this morning a Garda patrol van remained outside and the area was cordoned off.
Reports claim that the alarm at the premises had been going off intermittently over the past number of days.
In early January last year, several buildings just a short distance away on the Main Street were also destroyed which saw the Florentine Bar and and Hilton’s Pharmacy affected.
