Conviction rates for drivers caught in Wicklow without a licence among lowest in Ireland
Conviction rates in county Wicklow for driving without a licence are among the lowest in the country with less than one in seven drivers caught being convicted.
New figures released show 15% of people caught in Wicklow driving without a licence were dealt with through the courts.
The national average was just 19%, or less than one-in-five drivers caught without a licence being prosecuted.
Just 4% (one-in-25) of people in counties Cavan and Monaghan caught were dealt with through the courts.
Prosecutions rates were highest in county Cork with a 30% prosecution rate, Kilkenny and Carlow were next with 29% of those caught being prosecuted
The information was released in parliamentary questions posed to Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan and revealed the conviction rates dealt with through the courts from January 2016 until September 12, 2019.
The information released found 80% of those convicted were fined, 10% were handed a driving ban, while just 4% were jailed.
