Council hands out €80,000 to support Wicklow communities and groups

Almost €80,000 has been distributed by Wicklow County Council to 50 groups who are supporting their communities across the county during the Covid-19 emergency.
Each county in the country received a grant from the Department of rural and Community Development to assist Community and Voluntary groups involved in the delivery of Covid-19 community response efforts.
Amongst those sharing the grant in Wicklow are:
- Nine groups providing meals to those in need
- Eight sporting organisations aiding
- Nine groups supplying face masks for frontline staff
- Five groups offering technology support
- Four groups providing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
The other groups involved provide a mix of assistance such as transport, financial advice etc.
Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Irene Winters, expressed her sincere thanks , on behalf of everyone in Wicklow, for the tremendous community spirit being shown right throughout the county from the smallest to the largest groups. She hoped everyone stays safe and follow the national guidelines during the emergency
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Mr Frank Curran, thanked the Department of Rural and Community Development for the financial assistance which allowed the Council to recognise the great work being done by thousands of volunteers throughout the county.
