Dramatic fall in number of Wicklow unemployed as 5,188 sign on
The number of people signing on the live register in Wicklow has fallen dramatically in the past 12 months reaching lows not seen since the Celtic Tiger era.
The latest live register figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows a 5.57% drop in the number of people signing on in Wicklow compared to December 31, 2018.
On December 31, 2019, 5,188 people were on the live register in Wicklow, down 312 on the previous year of 5,600.
The biggest drop in figures was at the Baltinglass office which recorded a 17.57% drop in people signing on the register, from 527 down to 435.
The Wicklow Town office recorded a 4.2% reduction where just 50 people came off the live register. Bray saw 130 people come off the live register, a drop of 5.54%, while Arklow saw a big drop of 9.1% coming off the register, down from 1,530 to 1,390 people.
Nationally, the number of people signing on the live register in 2019 fell by 18,000, from 203,300 in December 2018 to 185,300 at the end of December 2019, a decrease of 8.85%.
