Driver banned for 25 years app-rehended after he was caught speeding on Wicklow motorway
A motorist who was banned from driving for 25 years was caught red-handed by Wicklow officers armed with the new Garda mobile device app.
The driver was arrested after he was clocked speeding on the N11 over the weekend.
A local Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Driver on M11 detected speeding. A quick check on the mobility app revealed the driver is currently serving a disqualification from driving … for 25 years. Needless to say he’s heading for court.”
The Garda mobility app helps frontline gardai to root out drivers who are not properly licensed, disqualified, or haven’t got tax or insurance.
The mobile phone-based app also allows gardai to check licence and registration details with a number of different databases and enable a garda to issue fixed charge penalties (FPNs) from the roadside.
