Dublin Bus splashes out €5,000 as Lakers receive top Community Spirit Award
Three Wicklow-based voluntary groups have been rewarded for their efforts by Dublin Bus at this year’s Community Spirit Awards.
Lakers Sports and Recreational Club received a top Community Spirit Award of €5,000; Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were given a €2,000 Community Spirit Award; while Enniskerry Community First Responders got €1,000.
The Community Spirit Awards acknowledges groups that to raise community spirit and improve the lives of those in their locality and the awards help them to develop new projects.
A total of 87 groups will receive a Community Spirit Award: five €5,000 winners, 13 €2,000 and 69 €1,000 winners – the full list of winning groups is available at www.dublinbus.ie.
Lakers Sports and Recreational Club, who lost their permanent home in a fire last year, supports adults and children, age 5 to 70, with intellectual disabilities.
They’ll use their grant to fund their ‘Grow Project’, a gardening scheme with many benefits of which include improved mobility and fine motor skills, improved physical health through exercise, improved mental health from working outdoors, and increased self-confidence.
Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team is a charity group who aim to provide a professional mountain rescue service for those who find themselves in need.
With their €2,000 Community Spirit Award, the group hope to increase their water capabilities by updating their rescue and training equipment.
Enniskerry Community First Responders are a group of volunteers who help those in need in the Enniskerry area while they are waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
The group also provide much needed training in CPR to the local community.
With their €1,000 Community Spirit Award, the charity will update their current equipment, which includes purchasing two new defibrillators.
