€20,000 of drugs seized in war on organised crime gangs in Wicklow
A man has been arrested after he was caught with drugs worth an estimated €20,000 during a planned operation targeting organised crime groups in Wicklow.
The 29-year-old was arrested today following a search of a house in the Dunlavin area.
In a statement this evening, Gardai said the raid was “a joint intelligence led operation” involving the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, the Wicklow Divisional Drugs Unit, the Baltinglass Detective Unit and the Revenue Customs Service.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The operation, under Operation Tara, resulted in the search of a house in the Dunlavin area. During the course of the search herbal cannabis, cocaine and valium (subject to analysis) with an estimated street value of €20,000 was seized by Customs Officers.”
The 29-year-old suspect is currently being detained at Baltinglass Garda Station under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Gardai said their investigations “are continuing”.
