ELECTION 2020 UPDATE: Early tallies show Sinn Fein’s John Brady out in front followed by Harris, Whitmore, Matthews and Donnelly
Sinn Féin’s sitting TD John Brady is set for election on the first count in Wicklow followed by Fine Gael’s Simon Harris and the Social Democrats’ Jennifer Whitmore, according to early tallies.
That leaves the Green Party’s Steven Matthews, Fianna Fail’s Stephen Donnelly and Fine Gael’s Andrew Doyle battling it out for the last two seats.
With 56% of boxes opened, early tallies show Deputy Brady polling a remarkable 23% of the vote, while Harris and Whitmore are on 14% and 12% respectively, while Matthews is on 8.3% just ahead of Donnelly on 8.2% and Doyle on 6.4%.
However, Fine Gael’s Billy Timmins is next on 5.5% while Fianna Pat Casey is just behind on 5.4%, setting up an intriguing transfer battle between the two parties that will see Doyle and Donnelly go head-to-head for the last seat.
