Full Circle: Fuel giant plans ambitious overhaul of service station in county Wicklow town
A petrol station close to the centre of a county Wicklow town is to undergo a massive transformation if plans submitted to the county council are accepted.
The Circle K filling station on the Dublin Road in Arklow is looking to perform a complete overhaul which would see much of the existing premises flattened and a much larger retail area, forecourt and parking area created in its place.
Under the plans received just last week by Wicklow County Council, Circle K have requested permission to demolish the existing roadside fuel forecourt and associated canopy, as well as flattening the southern part of existing retail premises.
In their place they are requesting permission to construct a new three island fuel forecourt with an illuminated canopy overhead. This will require the installation of both underground and overground fuel infrastructure.
The plans call for the change of use of existing premises to provide a new forecourt amenity building with retail area which includes a restaurant/café area, customer seating, an off-licence, customer toilets, an office area, and staff area.
Due to the scale of the project changes to the entrance and exit onto the Dublin Road have been factored in, as has a new footpath and boundary walls, car and bicycle parking and site lighting.
A decision on the ambitious plan is expected on July 1 and submissions from the public are being accepted up until June 10.
