Huge glamping park planned for centre of county Wicklow town
Unique and innovative plans that could see tourists flocking to a county Wicklow town after the Covid-19 resitrctions have been lifted have been received the local authority.
Businessman Joseph Germaine is hoping to cash in on the growing trend for glamping accommodation as he hopes to build 44 glamping lodges on a site band in the centre of Baltinglass.
Mr Germaine has applied to Wicklow County Council to create a holiday base with a visitor centre and 44 new glamping lodges in the site of the former Byrne’s Grocery Store on the town’s Main Street.
To develop the new holiday centre, the former store, which stands in a prominent position in the town, will have to be demolished.
Glamping lodges are slightly bigger than glamping pods and are designed to accommodate families of groups. Usually, lodges accommodate four people upwards.
A decision on the innovative development is expected from Wicklow council by the end of June and submissions are being accepted from the public up until June 4.
