Journalist Erika Doyle to replace Green Party’s Steven Matthews on Wicklow County Council
Journalist Erika Doyle is to replace councillor Steven Matthews on Wicklow County Council after he was elected as a TD for the Green Party in the recent General Election.
A special meeting of Wicklow County Council is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25 at 16.00pm in County Buildings when Ms Doyle’s co-option will be confirmed along with the replacement for the Social Democrats Jennifer Whitmore, who was also elected to the Dail.
As part of Green Party rules, a full selection process was conducted before Ms Doyle was chosen to replace Mr Matthews.
Ms Doyle will be no stranger to the workings of the council having previously worked as a reporter and editor with the Wicklow Times newspaper for 12 years.
Ms Doyle, who is married to Mr Matthews, acted as his campaign manager for the 2020 Local Elections, when he topped the poll in the Bray East Ward, and during his recent General Election campaign when he was elected on the 15th count.
