Katie targets Persoon rematch as she makes RTE Sportsperson of the Year shortlist
Katie Taylor has been named on the the 10-person shortlist for the RTÉ Sport Awards 2019 Sportsperson of the Year.
The news comes as the Bray boxer announced that she is targeting three headline bouts in 2020, including a rematch with Delphine Persoon, as she continues her unbeaten run among the professional ranks.
Katie made history by unifying all four world lightweight titles with victory over Persoon at Madison Square Garden in New York, adding the WBC lightweight title to her IBF, WBA and WBO belts.
She then moved up in weight to become only our third two-weight world champion with a unanimous points victory over Christina Linardatou.
Katie will face stiff competition to reclaim the RTE award which she previously won in 2012, with British Open Champion Shane Lowry the favourite to win.

Meanwhile, Katie’s camp have said she is targeting fights with welterweight champion Cecilia Brækhus, American Amanda Serrano as well as the rematch with Delfine Persoon.
