Lidl to large: Supermarket giant to demolish Wicklow store and double its size
A supermarket in Wicklow Town is set to undergo a massive makeover which will see the current store demolished to be replaced by a new and much bigger premises.
Lidl will double the size of its shop on the Dublin Road in Wicklow after getting the green light from Wicklow County Council for its ambitious plans.
The supermarket giant will demolish the current store on the site and replace it with a new two-storey building which will create a larger shopping area with an off-licence, as well as a significantly larger store area.
The company says over €1 million will be spent on wages during the construction of the new store and a further five permanent jobs will be created on completion, bringing to 25 the number of full-time employees at the store.
Lidl says the newly-revamped store will generate an extra €200,000 in additional wages which will boost the local economy.
The new layout will also see more car parking created, along with electric vehicle charging, cycle parking, extra spaces for people with mobility issues and a modified pedestrian entrance.
No timeline has been given for the building of the new store.
