Lights, camera, action! Filming of Vikings spin-off to get underway at Wicklow studio

The cameras as set to start rolling again on our local film sets.

The Irish film industry is preparing to emerge from lockdown following months without any production. And that’s very welcome news for the local film industry, with Valhalla – a spin-off from the hit TV series Vikings – expected to begin filming before the end of the month.

Wicklow’s film studios were booked out when the pandemic hit in March. Cameras were just about to roll on the Ridley Scott film The Last Duel starring Matt Damon at Ardmore Studios when the restrictions kicked in. The film was originally scheduled for a Christmas Day release, but The Sunday Times reports that this has now been pushed back to October 2021.

Likewise, Valhalla was due to begin filming at Ashford Studios before the lockdown, but shooting is now expected to get underway this month.
