Paint by numbers: 21 Wicklow artists get €3,000 each as part of €1m grant scheme
The Arts Council has awarded a €3,000 grant to 21 Wicklow artists to help them make new and original work during the Covid-19 crisis.
The government agency for funding and developing the arts said applications from County Wicklow artists had scored very highly.
Visual Artists Alan Clarke, Ruairi Conaty, Michael Durand, Rachel Fallon (Kerskens), Shane Finan, Emma Finucane, Aisling Heaney, Jack Hogan, Laura Kelly, Jonah King and Patrick MacAllister and Musicians Annette Cleary, Vyvienne Long, Caimin Gilmore and Oscar Hackett were all successful.
Jane Clarke and Lucy Sweeney Byrne were also successful for their involvement in Literature (English language), as was Eleanor Phillips for Arts Participation, Philip St John and Emily Gillmor Murphy for Theatre and David Stephenson for film.
The Arts Council said that across the whole of the country it was encouraged by both the quality of the applications, and the fact that almost two thirds of the successful artists had never before been funded by the Arts Council.
The €1m scheme is one of a suite of measures being introduced by the Arts Council to help support artists and arts organisations through the Covid-19 crisis.
