Plans for M11 motorway ‘Park and Ride’ still on track

A county Wicklow ‘park and ride’ facility granted planning permission five years ago but stuck in second gear due to motorway construction is still in the pipeline, WicklowNow.ie can reveal.

Back in 2014, Stoneleigh Developments along with Wexford Bus applied for planning permission to create a 170 car space park and ride facility at Templerainey in Arklow.

The ‘park and ride’ would be built in an area just off the M11 motorway on the northern side of Arklow.

In January 2015, permission for the development was granted by Wicklow County Council but the development never got off the ground as that section of the M11 Motorway was still under construction last year, and only opened in July.

Stoneleigh Developments has now returned to Wicklow Council looking for them to extend the period of planning permission by another five years.

Stoneleigh said due extensive public infrastructure required to complete the M11 during the period of their planning, “the project simply was not viable,” at that time.

A decision on whether to grant the developer the extension will be made by Wicklow County Council next month.
