Ring in the changes: Eircom wants to turn Bray’s old phone boxes into digital advertising displays
Ireland’s former phone and communications provider plans to erect a series of digital advertising displays around a county Wicklow town on the location of existing phone kiosks.
Eircom Limited has requested permission from Wicklow County Council to remove telephone kiosks from three locations in Bray and replace them with an integrated phone and advertising unit.
Each development, just under 2.5 metres high, if given permission will be erected on public footpaths where phone kiosks had been. Eircom are looking at three locations, one on Quinsborough Road, one on Vevay Road and the other at the junction of St Kevin’s Square and Main Street.
A decision on the new digi-ad displays will be made next month.
Recently, a similar request by Eircom to erect seven of these displays around Waterford City was rejected by the council there on the grounds they would negatively impact their surrounding area.
