Roads remain closed and driving conditions hazardous as fresh snow falls on Wicklow
Unexpected fresh snows and plummeting road temperatures around county Wicklow have made driving conditions treacherous once again this morning.
Once again this morning both routes through the Sally Gap – the Old Military Rd (R115) and the Roundwood/Manor Kilbride Rd (R759) remain closed and are expected to remain closed until further notice.
Emergency services and gardai urge the public to heed the warnings and not try to drive up these passes. Over the past few days some cars have got stuck and have had to be rescued and they would like to avoid a re-occurrence of this.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has issued two freezing road warnings for county Wicklow.
Unsurprisingly the mountain road through Laragh its surface temperature is below freezing creating hazardous conditions, the R115, R755 and R756 are all affected.
The N81 near Baltinglass experienced fresh snows this morning and is very slippery – caution is advised in the area.
The poor road conditions have lead to knock-on effects for Dublin commuters and the M11 motorway where it remains busy between Junction 11 Greystones and Junction8 Kilmacanogue.
As always in these conditions, Wicklow County Council is urging people to drive with caution and give yourself extra time for your journey.
The Yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been extended into this morning by Met Éireann.
