Sparks will fly: €15,000 for Wicklow Town’s energy plan
Funding of €15,000 has been received which will allow the preparation of an Energy Master Plan for Wicklow Town.
The funding was awarded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) to Wicklow Tidy Towns Sustainable Energy Community (SEC).
It will be used to identify projects and actions which will make Wicklow Town a leader on Climate Action.
Wicklow Tidy Towns will work with businesses, the public, schools, clubs and public services to help identify and implement energy solutions for the town. Energy efficiency, renewables and energy transition will be a key driver for economic development in Wicklow.
“This funding is good news and a welcome follow-up to Wicklow County Council’s launch last year of the Sustainable Energy Community network and the establishment of the new Climate Change SPC,” Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, said.
The Cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal District, Cllr Shay Cullen, commended Wicklow Tidy Towns on their work and particularly on the achievement of attaining the Gold Medal for Wicklow Town in last year’s National Tidy Towns competition.
He added that the SECs offer an opportunity for communities in Wicklow Town to prepare the Energy Master Plan and to participate in driving forward the energy transition needed for Climate Action and to engage in transforming our use of energy and develop localised innovative solutions.
