Stephen puts his best foot forward: Former mayor raises €1,700 by walking Wicklow Way
Former Greystones Mayor Stephen Stokes has completed the Wicklow Way in aid of Greystones First Responders, raising €1,700 in the process so far.
Stephen completed the 131 kilometre route in just over 5 days, during early July by walking from Marlay Park in Dublin to Clonegal in Carlow.
“It was great exercise, and most importantly raised money for the First Responders, who receive no funding,” he says.
“It was great to explore Wicklow for this charity. It was an amazing adventure, with beautiful scenery, wonderful people, fluctuating weather and interesting sights. Greystones First Responders do lifesaving voluntary work before ambulances arrive.
“GCFR response time is usually under 6 minutes, whereas it takes an ambulance around 12-15 minutes to come from Loughlinstown to Greystones. This can make a vital difference.
“Donations are still welcome on GoFundMe.com, search Wicklow Way for Greystones First Responders. They have to finance everything themselves including PPE. Every cent is appreciated, and will be spent wisely.”
