Sunny days ahead: Planning authority gives go-ahead for huge solar farm in county Wicklow
A huge solar farm on the outskirts of a county Wicklow town can now go ahead after the national planning authority decided to uphold the decision of Wicklow County Council to grant premission.
The massive green project, being developed by BNRG Neoen Holdings Limited, can now proceed on lands at Ballymoney in Arklow.
Wicklow County Council originally granted permission for the solar farm on a 19 hectares site close to the M11 at Arklow a year ago.
This decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála on the grounds the development would have an adverse effect on nearby residential properties.
In making its judgement on the case, An Bord Pleanála said: “It is considered that, subject to compliance with the conditions set out below, the proposed development would have acceptable impacts on visual amenity, would not seriously injure the residential amenities of property in the vicinity, would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience, and would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”
