Trapped drivers rescued off Wicklow Mountains after ignoring ‘Road Closed’ signs
Wicklow gardai are urging people to heed their advice and not try drive on roads they have closed.
The calls come after the Wicklow Mountain Rescue had to rescue people trapped in their cars on the Sally Gap yesterday.
Gardai have this morning closed the Sally Gap, the Wicklow Gap and the Old Military road and urge people to stay away from the road and take their advice.
Yesterday before lunchtime a snow blizzard cut through the Sally Gap catching a number of people who drove up the mountains out and trapping them in their cars.
AA Roadwatch this morning issued a warning for people driving around the county saying; “conditions are poor.”
“Both routes through the Sally Gap, including the Old Military Rd (R115) and the Roundwood/Manor Kilbride Rd (R759) are expected to remain closed until at least later today.”
Gardai are urging people to drive with care.
Many people have been out capturing the snow around the city and the county and posting to social media, capturing some beautiful moments.
People will get chance to capture more as Met Éireann expect the snow showers to continue until late this evening.
