WEATHER WARNING: Wicklow braced for high winds amid new storm forecasts

Forecasters are warning of a large and powerful storm, currently over the northern Atlantic, which could see winds of up to 150kph batter the South East.

The extreme forecast was issued by Weather Alert Ireland, which has dubbed the storm ‘Brendan’, earlier today. It has also forecast snow for this weekend.

Popular weather apps Accuweather and Windy.com have also warned of severe weather conditions, with gusts of up to 120kph.

Wicklow should escape the worst the bad weather, but the county is still expected to experience very strong winds, especially on higher ground.

National forecaster Met Éireann said it is expecting gusts up to 110kph. It has just issued a Status Yellow gale warning, but so far only for the west coast.

More details to follow.
