Well done folks: Locals raise enough money to replace vandalised Rathnew defibrillator in just 8 hours

Residents of Rathnew, Wicklow and beyond, take a bow … a  GoFundMe page set up  to replace the defibrillator stolen from Rathnew last weekend surpassed its target in just eight hours.

Set-up by Anton Clancy, the page has raised €1280 – €180 more than the €1100 he originally asked for.

“We smashed the target in little over eight hours,” a spokesperson for Community First Responders Wicklow Town told   WicklowNow.ie.

“We would like to thank every single person that donated, we are so happy to see the community rally together to raise this money. This is what community spirit is all about. We aim to have the new AED back in ASAP.”

Gardai are believed to be making progress in their hunt for the vandals who dumped the now recovered defibrillator stolen.

The defibrillator taken was snatched from Centra on Friday night and was recovered from the grounds of the school opposite the supermarket in Merrymeeting.

Gardai are calling for anyone with information to call Wicklow Garda station at (0404) 67107.
