Wicklow dentists must get specialist protective face masks – TD
Dentists working in Wicklow must get the specialist face masks they need to keep them safe, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Health Stephen Donnelly TD has said.
Deputy Donnelly has called on the Government to let them know where they will be allowed work during the current Covid-19 crisis and added that clarity was also needed as to how dentists would be paid under the new system.
“Dentists in Wicklow were initially told to carry on as normal which they say did not make sense as they work in such close proximity to their patients,” said Deputy Donnelly.
“But as of last week all of that changed and from now on only emergency dentistry will be done.
“The work will be done in 25 dentistry hubs around the country but as yet we don’t know where they are.
“Dentists in Wicklow are anxious to see these hubs being set up as quickly as possible.
“However, an absolute must for dentists who will be working is that they are supplied with the correct personal protection equipment.
“Specifically, they need to be supplied with FFP3 masks, which have a fluid resistant barrier, if they are going to be able to treat patients safely.
“The masks are essential for any workers operating where there is a risk of droplet or airborne transmission of the disease.”
