Wicklow nursing home unveils plans to build another extension onto one currently under construction
A county Wicklow nursing home is seeking permission to add a new-storey to its care facility to provide much needed extra bed capacity for the care of the elderly.
The owners of the Shannagh Bay Nursing Home on Fitzwiliam Terrace in Bray have made an application to Wicklow County Council to develop a new floor on top of an already approved extension currently under construction that will provide six new bedrooms.
The approved extension under construction is a two-storey development adjoining the existing four-storey nursing home in its prominent position on Bray’s seafront.
As part of the proposal, Shannagh Bay are looking for permission for six extra bedrooms, circulation areas, a stairway, and a new lift.
The new floor would require some amendments to the planning granted for the two-storey extension currently under construction to take into account fire safety regulations and the positioning of some existing windows.
The new rooms would be built in place of the previously approved roof terrace on the two-storey extension.
A decision on the new plans is expected by early July and the council are accepting submissions from the public up until June 13.
