Wicklow TD calls for increased Garda patrols following knife-point mugging of four women

Wicklow  TD Minister Simon Harris has called for increased Garda presence in the country following two high profile incidents.

The Fine Gael deputy  has written to the Minister for Justice about the need for an increased police presence in Charlesland in Greystones and Enniskerry.

“The attack on joggers in Charlesland last weekend caused great alarm in the community,” he said.

“I have requested the County Wicklow Policing Committee discuss the recent increase in burglaries in residential areas adjacent to the N11 including the communities of Enniskerry, Delgany, Charlesland and Kilcoole.”

“I have also written to the Minister for Justice seeking an update on how to extend the opening hours for Enniskerry Garda station in light of a number of incidents in the community since the start of the year including the recent attempted robbery on Enniskerry Post Office.

“The North Wicklow area has a rapidly growing population and policing resources must keep up with the related demographic and social pressures that come with new housing developments.”
