Work to remove notorious Wicklow accident blackspot to begin in New Year
Work can finally begin on the removal of one of Wicklow’s most notorious stretches of road after funding has been made available for the project.
The N81 Knockroe Bend Realignment Scheme has been allocated €3 million as part of Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) work programme for 2020.
The upgrading of approximately 1km of the N81 at Knockroe Bend is intended to make the stretch of road much safer for road users. The road close to Hollywood Cross has been the scene of numerous bad collisions.
In total, more than €7 million in funding has been allocated to Wicklow County Council for road improvements and safety projects in 2020.
€1.5 million has been set aside for a parallel service road on the N11 at Kilmacanogue and the same amount to be spent on improvements to junctions 4 through 14 on the M11.
TII have set aside €730,000 minor works and upgrades to pavements along the N81.
Motorway and national secondary road lighting, as well as general road maintenance schemes have been allocated €297,126 in 2020.
